Wesley's United Women of Faith is involved in a variety of missions. Locally we support La Casa Hogar, Rod's House, Union Gospel Mission, Camp Hope and Noah's Ark, and Neighborhood Health. In our PNW Conference, we support Tacoma House and Atlantic Street Center in Seattle. Internationally we support missionary Katherine Parker who is based in Nepal, and the Jamaa Letu Orphanage in the Congo.
Throughout the year we meet to read, study and learn about living as disciples of Christ throughout the world.
We take road trips (Van-Go) to mission sites throughout the Pacific Northwest.
United Women of Faith raises funds through Rummage Sales in September and April and a Holiday Craft Fair in November. Our 2023 Rummage Sale was very successful, raising more than $8,000; Fall Sale in September raised more than $5,000, which we contribute to local and global mission programs supporting women, youth, and children.
Our 2023 Holiday Craft Fair will be November 18, the weekend before Thanksgiving. Our Sew 'n' Sew group creates lovely sewn projects they contribute. We will offer Pickled Asparagus which we prepared in May. You may contribute jams, jellies, relishes you may be canning this harvest season. Watch for a call for cookie and candy makers closer to the Craft Fair. Plan to come and shop, there are also local vendors who will be showing their wares. If you are interested in having a Vendor Table at the Craft Fair, contact the Church office, 509-966-2370.

Nome Community Center MISSION PROJECT
The Nome Community Center in Nome, Alaska, has become a focus of the United Women of Faith of the Pacific Northwest Conference. The mission was established by the Methodist Church in 1910.
Our United Women of Faith leadership team decided to send a gift card(s) to the community center to avoid the costly shipping charges. We welcome any donations Wesley’s members would like to give to this worthy mission project. Please send your check to the church office made out to Wesley United Women of Faith with Nome Community Ctr in the subject line.

Women's Book Clubs
Nurturing for Community, and Education for Mission. We have three active book clubs at Wesley. One draws from an extensive reading list developed by the United Women in Faith national organization. The other two choose books as selected from within the group. New members are always welcomed. Book Club members can wear masks and social distance if they choose.
The Wesley United Women in Faith Reading Group meets on the second Wednesday of each month at 10:00 a.m. in Room 9. At our October meeting we decided we will add a Bible Study to our monthly Reading Group meeting, starting in November. We will continue our time together with Bible Study at 11:00 AM on Book Club days. Please join us and add your thoughts! ( Feel free to come for either one or both discussions.)
Most titles are nonfiction, but there are several fiction titles as well. You can find these books in the Wesley UMC Library. Please remember to check out the titles you select and check them back in when returned.
A list of available titles are available at www.unitedmethodistwomen.org/2021readingprogramtitles-1
The Afternoon Book Club meets on the third Wednesday of the month at 1:00 p.m. in the Gold Room. The book club will meet at 12:30 p.m. on April 19, in the Gold Room. Liz Roderick will lead a discussion of the
book she has written, The Other Place.
The Morning Book Club The Morning Book Club will meet at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 20, at Dolly Stalder's clubhouse across from Wesley on 48th. They will discuss The Girls in the Stilt House by Kelly Mustian. Cindy Whitlock will lead the discussion.
New members are always welcome! Each of these book clubs enjoys a strong, supportive fellowship as well as interesting and enlightening discussions and the chance to learn about other cultures and histories. Book club members can choose to wear masks and sit apart from one another if they wish to do so.

2022 UWF Woman of the Year--Marge Bigham
At the Spring Luncheon, May 7, we honored UMW's Woman of the Year, Marge Bigham, center, pictured above with Carol Mills and Betsy Broom, 2021 recipients. Alison Nolz, Nominations Chair, made the announcement this way:
"This year, we are honoring a lady who has a long standing (and hopefully good standing) history with Wesley and UWF and its previous organizations. She works, seemingly, tirelessly in a humble and unassuming manner; seldom calling attention to herself.
Her extensive knowledge in and with UMW/UWF and her guidance to newer members is invaluable. She gives us all the opportunity to see the reach of our organization far beyond Wesley and Yakima; helping us understand the connectional relationship with the district, the conference, and the denomination.
UMW/UWF is the largest denominational faith organization for women with about 800,000 members across the world. She helps us see how, individually, we are a part of all of that.
She is dedicated to the mission of the UWF reading group, and as one person said, “She even got me to start reading.” She keeps us sewing and contributing with her passion and enthusiasm for the Freedom Kits program.
And she’s not done yet. In her spare time, she sews blankets for foster children. We are pleased to introduce our 2022 Woman of the Year: Marge Bigham."
